Anneke Van Giersbergen, Anna Murphy
Anneke van Giersbergen will embark on another European tour beginning on March 25th in Colmar, France.
The Dutch singer’s latest solo album ‚Drive’ was released this past September to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and contains many songs tailor-made for live performance.
„This set is a perfect mix of energetic rock songs, melancholic acoustic tunes and a couple of The Gathering-era classics” enthuses Anneke about her current live show.
The tour will also feature singer Anna Murphy, who will support on all dates. The member of Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie has just released her solo debut ‚Cellar Darling’. „I’m very excited and honoured to be a part of this tour and I can’t think of a better match to share the stage with” said Murphy.
This September 23 Dutch singer-songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen will release her fifth studio album.
The first single from the as-yet-untitled LP is set to land on August 23, accompanied by a music video, and a European tour will commence in mid-October. On this follow-up to 2012’s Everything is Changing, Anneke collaborated with Dutch songwriter and producer Arno Krabman, enlisting the help of her live band to lay down the new tracks. In a time when bands are creating entire albums by transferring files online, Anneke explains that she was keen to do things the old-fashioned way: “I really wanted to record an album together with a group of musicians in a studio.” Having toured extensively with the same tight-knit group of musicians, the result is an organic sound that perfectly captures our chemistry as a band.
Having proven her credentials and immense vocal talent for 13 years as front woman of The Gathering,
in 2007 Anneke felt it was time to begin her own solo career. Along with her new band Agua de
Annique the charismatic singer quickly established herself as a solo artist, releasing several albums to
critical and popular acclaim.
Anneke also found time to collaborate with some of her long-time friends and musical peers, lending
her honey-sweet, yet powerful voice to the likes of Anathema (Falling Deeper), the eccentric Devin
Townsend (Addicted!, Epicloud) and fellow Dutchmen Within Temptation (Black Symphony). 2012’s
Everything is Changing was something of a milestone in Anneke’s solo career. The album, which was
the first to be released under her own name without the Agua de Annique moniker, got her nominated
for two Edison awards – Holland’s most prestigious music prize – in the categories ‘Best Female Artist’
and ‘Best Album’. Not only was it a success in her home country, Everything is Changing took Anneke
all over the world as she toured over 25 different countries including the UK, Germany, France and
throughout Latin America.
The new album shows Anneke to be on top form and more multifaceted than ever, with songs ranging
from her signature intimate ballads to euphoric stadium rock anthems – and as always, her ethereally
beautiful voice is the jewel in the centre.

With Cellar Darling comes the long-anticipated first solo effort of the 24 year-old Swiss singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Anna Murphy. Skillfully, Anna melts pop, rock and electronica into a wildly diverse mix, prompting comparisons to a variety of artists ranging from Florence And The Machine all the way to the likes of Jack White and Muse. You may categorize Anna’s music as “Alternative”, although she much prefers the term Eclectica. Responsible not only for the lyrics and music, the uncompromising young artist takes complete control including co-producing the album with Marco Jencarelli (Soundfarm Studios, Philipp Fankhauser, Dada Ante Portas) and even painting most of the artwork herself. She tells an intimate tale in an epic lyrical concept, often with a slightly sarcastic angle. As much a music fan as an artist, Anna refuses any further explanation – not to keep her fans in the dark, but to allow them to immerse themselves in their own version of the story, and to allow the songs to come to life in a personal way for each listener. Or, in Anna’s own words: “I prefer to pour my emotions into my music, rather than onto my listeners.” At the young age of 23, the daughter of Swiss and Irish opera singers has already toured the world several times over, releasing several albums and playing hundreds of shows in more than 35 countries with her band Eluveitie. Now she’s stepping in the spotlight with “Cellar Darling” – a true work of art and one of the most diverse albums to see the light of day in recent years.
